How to use the Audio to WAV tool
- Drop an audio file.
- Choose the sample rate and mono or stereo.
- Preview and download the WAV.
Why convert audio to WAV?
Compressed formats like MP3, AAC and Ogg are great for listening because they’re small. But some software only accepts WAV: older audio editors, sample-based instruments, some telephone and announcement systems, and many speech recognition tools. WAV is also the best format to edit in, since each edit and re-save of an MP3 loses a little more quality.
Supported formats
The converter uses your browser’s audio decoder, so support depends slightly on the browser. These work in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari:
- MP3, WAV and AAC/M4A
- FLAC
- Ogg Vorbis and Opus (Safari support is more recent)
- WebM audio
The output is 16-bit PCM WAV, the most compatible kind. Choose 16 kHz mono when the file is going to a speech-to-text service, or keep 44.1 kHz stereo for music.
Frequently asked questions
Does converting MP3 to WAV improve quality?
No. It decodes the MP3 into an uncompressed file, which is useful for editing, but it can’t restore detail lost during MP3 encoding.
Which formats are supported?
MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG Vorbis, Opus, FLAC and WebM audio work in most modern browsers.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. HushConverts converts everything with code that runs in your browser, so your text and files stay on your device. You can even use most tools offline once the page has loaded.
