How to use the Video to Audio tool
- Drop a video file onto the box.
- Choose stereo or mono and the sample rate.
- Listen to the preview, then download the WAV.
What this converter does
A video file is a container holding separate tracks: usually one video track and one or more audio tracks. This tool reads the audio track with your browser’s built-in decoder and writes it out as a WAV file. The picture is discarded, so the result is just the sound, at full quality.
Because the work happens on your device, the video is never uploaded. That makes it suitable for private recordings such as interviews, meetings, lectures and family videos, and there’s no waiting for a large file to upload.
Choosing the right settings
- Keep original channels for music and anything recorded in stereo.
- Mono for speech. It halves the file size and many transcription services prefer it.
- 44.1 kHz is CD quality and the safest choice for editing and playback.
- 48 kHz matches the audio in most camera and phone videos.
- 16 kHz is ideal for speech-to-text and makes the smallest files.

Frequently asked questions
Which video formats work?
MP4, MOV, M4V and WebM usually work, as long as your browser supports the audio codec. Chrome and Edge support the most formats.
Why WAV and not MP3?
WAV is created directly by your browser with no extra software, and it keeps full quality. It is larger than MP3, so use mono and a lower sample rate for long speech recordings.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. HushConverts converts everything with code that runs in your browser, so your text and files stay on your device. You can even use most tools offline once the page has loaded.
